MaresConnect secures EU PCI/PMI Status
MaresConnect has been included in the Second EU PCI/PMI List, and recognised as a priority energy infrastructure project MaresConnect is pleased to announce its inclusion in the European Union’s second list of Projects of Common/Mutual Interest (PCI/PMI), confirming its status as a strategic priority within Europe’s evolving energy system. This designation provides the project with several advantages, including accelerated permitting procedures under the TEN-E Regulation, supporting efficient progression through regulatory milestones. The project will also benefit from the eligibility to apply for Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding – covering up to 50% of eligible development costs. MaresConnect welcomes positive decision from CRU on Initial Project Assessment (IPA)
MaresConnect Limited (MCL) welcomes the positive minded-to decision from the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) in Ireland regarding its Initial Project Assessment (IPA) of the MaresConnect interconnector. The CRU decision reflects the Irish Government Policy of 2023 on increased interconnection and follows Ofgem’s positive IPA decision in November 2024 and support for MaresConnect under the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan. MaresConnect welcomes positive decision from Ofgem on initial project assessment (IPA)
Dublin, 12 November 2024 Ofgem announced today its minded to decision to award Cap & Floor regulation to the 750MW MaresConnect interconnector project as part of its Initial Project Assessment of the third Cap & Floor application window for electricity interconnectors. Ofgem’s review recognised MaresConnect for its potential to support cross-border energy security, renewable integration, and enhanced system flexibility within Great Britain and Ireland. Ofgem has approved a further 6GW of interconnection capacity between Great Britain and its neighbours consistent with the Government’s policy of achieving a total of 18GW by 2030. “We very much welcome Ofgem’s positive response,” said Simon Ludlam, CEO at MaresConnect. “This endorsement strengthens our commitment to a more connected energy future and highlights our project’s
