MaresConnect at the Ireland–Wales Ministerial Forum

MaresConnect with Ministers

On 3 July 2025, the Waterfront Museum in Swansea hosted a significant gathering of leaders and stakeholders at the Ireland–Wales Ministerial Forum. MaresConnect was honoured to be invited to speak at the event and share our vision for the project – an important step in advancing energy integration between Ireland and Wales.

Forum Highlights

Chaired by the First Minister of Wales, Eluned Morgan, and Ireland’s Tánaiste, Simon Harris TD, the Forum marked the launch of the Ireland–Wales Shared Statement to 2030. This forward-looking framework sets out a commitment to closer cooperation between the two nations across several strategically important areas. Among the themes discussed, energy collaboration was a key focus, with particular attention given to tangible projects such as the MaresConnect interconnector, which will link the two grids and  will help deliver shared climate and infrastructure goals.

MaresConnect’s Contribution

We were pleased to present the role the MaresConnect project will play in supporting energy security and decarbonisation efforts in both countries. Our proposed interconnector will enable the efficient transfer of electricity, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and create long-term environmental and economic benefits for communities on both sides of the Irish Sea.

Looking Ahead

For MaresConnect, the Forum provided a valuable opportunity to engage with key partners and policymakers. It was encouraging to see strong alignment between infrastructure priorities and policy ambitions, and we are proud to be contributing to this shared vision for a more sustainable, secure energy future.

We extend our thanks to the Welsh Government and the Government of Ireland for the opportunity to participate in this milestone event. We look forward to continuing our collaboration in the months and years ahead.
